Chapter 1 | Black & Red (TGLES #1)

Athena Lemiere:

I got out of my car and slung my bag over my shoulder. As usual, all eyes were on me because Lemiere is my last name. I took off my sunglasses and slipped them into my V-neck shirt. I ran my right hand through my hair and winked to a few guys who were standing in front of the school entrance.

I walked towards my locker and opened the lock with my gold card. I opened the locker and put my bag inside. Checking myself in the mirror, I pulled out my favorite mint gum from my pocket.

"I'll take that."

"Isaac!" I hissed and turned my head to him, but he was already running away. I took another piece of gum from my pocket and stuck it in my mouth. I looked at the books that were neatly organized inside my locker and grabbed a few books for my classes. I closed my locker and started to walk to class.

"Athena Lemiere…you look hot." I turned my head to see Serena smirking at me as she looked at me from head to toe.

"Serena Cesantio, you don't look bad," I teased her, and she chuckled. She slipped her arm under mine and we walked together to our first class of the day, which was boring Geography. I mean, I love studying the world because it’s beautiful, but the problem was that the teacher, Mr. Ronnie, was a very boring person. I yawned every 10 seconds for 2 hours straight and even Serena slept a lot in his class. She collected detention slips from him because of it.

"Are you going to the gala dinner tonight?" Serena asked as we walked into the classroom.

"No, I'm lazy, and besides I'm going to spend my time in my garage,” I said as we walked to the back of the class. She looked at me with a flat face and I raised my eyebrows because it looked like she was going to say something.

"Your dad will force you," she said as she pointed her index finger at me.

"My dad has 4 kids. He can take Isaac, Chase, or Caleb,” I said as I sat in the chair and put my bag down.

"You're no fun," she hissed, and I shrugged.

"Hey, Athena and Serena," Jax greeted us, and I just nodded a little. Jax was one of the hot jocks at school, but trust me, I wasn’t interested. It's not because he wasn’t elite or something, but I just didn't feel the spark or the butterflies.

"Athena…no way!" I turned to Serena, waiting for her to continue but instead of giving me information, she kept looking at her phone with her mouth open. I took her phone and looked at it.

Chase Lemiere: The Redents are transferring into your school today.

My brother announced it in our group chat, and I took out my phone as I gave back Serena's phone. I opened the news, and yes, it was full of news about the York Company moving to America.

"Why are they suddenly moving to America? They're weird," Serena said, and I nodded agreeing with her because I thought the York Company would stay in England until they died.

"Good morning, everyone!" Mr. Ronnie came in and everyone started to go back to their seats. My eyes caught someone I had known since I was a kid—Xander. He entered the classroom with Mr. Ronnie and automatically got a lot of stares and winks from the girls in our class.

I turned my head to Serena, and she shrugged. I turned my head back to Xander and he was currently scanning the classroom.

"Mr. Redent will join you starting from today. Introduce yourself, Mr. Redent," Mr. Ronnie said as he put his books on the desk and put his glasses on.

"Hello everyone. I'm Xander Redent. Just moved here from London. I'm single and available," Xander introduced himself and winked at a few girls who were sitting in the front. I shook my head a little looking at the manwhore who was flirting his ass off on the first day at school.

"Now, take a seat please," Mr. Ronnie said, and Xander walked towards us with a little smirk plastered on his lips.

"Hello Serena and Athena, how are you?" he asked as he plopped into the chair in front of Serena. I smiled at him because it has been a really long time since I've seen him.

"I'm good. So…you're a manwhore now?" I asked as I raised my eyebrows.

"What can I say? Girls love me," he smirked and winked at me.

"What an asshole…Wanna have lunch with us?" Serena asked and he turned to me. I nodded signaling that I was good with it, so he nodded.

"Is he boring?" he asked, pointing to Mr. Ronnie.

"I heard that, Mr. Redent." Mr. Ronnie was glaring at Xander, who sat up straight and pretended that he didn't do anything.

"Weirdly…I missed you,” I said because we got along with each other so well. He was a cool guy and fun to be with, so I wasn’t protesting his arrival.

"We all miss you. You're such an asshole for not visiting us," Serena hissed as she kicked his chair.

"Sorry…but now I'm here. I'm all yours!" he said in a cocky tone, and I just chuckled. Mr. Ronnie gave us a cough for not paying attention, so I turned my eyes to the front and tried to pay attention but still…I was sleepy.

For the whole 2 hours, I kept sketching in my book, not listening to Mr. Ronnie's speech because if I did, I would fall asleep. He has the same tone as my dad when he's reading me a bedtime story. Well, I guess my dad did succeed in putting me to sleep, and so did Mr. Ronnie.

I’d rather spend my time in my garage. I hate school.

Chapter 2 | Black & Red (TGLES #1)

Athena Lemiere:

As soon as the bell rang, students ran out of the class right away, which left the three of us inside the classroom. Mr. Ronnie walked out, and I put all my books in my arms, ready to go to my other class.

"What class do you have after this?" Xander asked.

"Math," I answered.

"We have the same class again,” he said, and then asked Serena, "How about you?"

"I have Chemistry,” she said as she wrapped her arms around her books. She gestured to us to leave the class and we walked out.

"Xander!" Isaac and Ian greeted him with a big hug.

"How are you doing, man?" my brother asked.

"I'm good, it's good to be back here,” Xander said, and Ian wrapped his arm around his shoulder.

"Let's hang out after school,” Ian said.

"Yeah! We should!" Xander answered.

I looked at Serena. She was looking at her watch and then she gestured for me to go.

"Let's go. We have class." I grabbed Xander's shirt and dragged him away.

"I'll see you at lunch, Redent,” Isaac said, and I kept dragging Xander because our class was on the 3rd floor. I bid my goodbyes to Serena since her class was on the ground floor and I told her that we'd see each other at lunch.

"So…Athena, any boyfriends?" he asked as we walked up the stairs.

"No," I answered. Suddenly I heard a lot of noise from the 2nd floor and my eyes widened when I saw a big group of students running towards us. Xander grabbed my body and immediately pushed me near the side of the stairs, preventing the students from bumping into me.

Without realizing our position, I looked at the stampede of students in disbelief because they were running like bulls. I turned to Xander, and my eyes popped when I realized how close his face was and that our position was really awkward. His arms were wrapped around me and there was no space between us. I coughed a little and he released me immediately.

"Let's go, Lemiere,” he said, looking away, and gestured me to head up the stairs.

"Yeah…thanks by the way,” I said, and he nodded. We walked towards the 3rd floor without talking to each other. It was awkward and I couldn’t take my mind off what had happened.

I could feel my heart beating hard and how hot my face was.

"Xander!" I turned to see Noah standing in front of our class with a big smile and his arms wide open. He greeted Xander with a hug. Yes, Xander and her sister Eva were really close to us. We spent a lot of time together when we were kids but since they lived in England, it was hard to catch up.

"How are you?" Noah dragged him inside because we had the same class. I followed them inside and casually sat in the back of the class while Noah dragged Xander to the right corner.

"Hi…Athena." Another jock named Patt greeted me. People said he had a really big crush on me. He asked me out a couple of times, but I rejected him again and again.

"Hi." I smiled.

"You look beautiful today,” he said as he plopped in the seat in front of me.

"Thanks," I said simply.

"Hi Xander," three girls called in a girly and flirty tone. I turned to Xander, and he was already smirking and winking back.

"Wanna join us for lunch later on?" Patt asked, and I turned back to him.

"No…I'm just going to do my own thing,” I said, and Patt nodded silently. He turned his head to the front, and I plugged my earphones in. Not long after that, Mrs. Turner walked in and started the class. I enjoyed math, so I didn’t have a problem falling asleep in class or being bored.

"Let's go have lunch," Noah said as he pulled me up. He wrapped his arm around me and gestured Xander to follow.

"You're going to the gala dinner tonight?" Noah asked.

"No."

"Stay in the garage again?" he asked, and I smirked nodding.

"Why are you staying in the garage?" Xander asked.

"She's a mechanic, brother," Noah said, and I nodded.

"Really?" he asked, and Noah chuckled.

"I'm starving…gonna run ahead," Noah said as he ran away.

"There's another class upstairs?" Xander asked as he pointed at some more stairs.

"No…it's a rooftop."

"Show me,” he said.

"But we're going to have lunch,” I said because I was starving.

"Fine, next time…you need to show me the rooftop."

"Go there alone. Why do you need me to show you?" I said, not wanting to be in a room with him alone after what happened earlier.

"What a Lemiere,” he said, and he walked down the stairs first. I just rolled my eyes and followed him. We walked to the cafeteria for lunch. Going towards the cafeteria is quite dramatic because all the students make way for us to pass even though we never ask them to.

Some students said they automatically do that since they know who we are. They even let us sit in the center of the cafeteria which is weird since we never asked for that either, but we didn't really care.

"I'm starving, let's queue," Celestine said.

"Get me another order of fries, sis!" I heard Isaac shout, and I just glared at him. He smiled wide at me, wiggling his eyebrows, and begging me to buy him more fries.

"Serena said that you're not going to go to the gala. Why?"

"I wanna spend my time in my garage…and besides my grandfather is coming so I wanna spend time with him,” I said, and Celestine looked at me pouting.

"You’ll have fun without me."

"You're no fun, Athena,” she said, and I just chuckled.
