Five hundred years earlier in a time when the Seelie and Unseelie sidhe almost destroyed the fae race.
The cliff loomed higher and Adriel, fallen angel of destruction, craved the power soon to be his when the Unseelie fae drove the Seelie light fae to their destruction. His thirst burned to extinguish the red rose of the fair mounds. One final swing and his leg swung over the ledge. He pulled himself upright and glared down at the battle below. Drawing in a deep breath, he moved through the foliage to the door of the Fair Family mound.
This was too easy, and he looked over his shoulders. No guards. No protectors. No fae. He raced through the blue lagoons, the heady fragrance of the flowers caused his stomach to churn at the revolting sweetness. The mystic red petal rose lay in the gardens fountain. With a deadly quiet, he listened.
Adriel used his psychic awareness to scan the area. His radar abili‐ ties didn’t detect any elemental energy, yet his instinct warned him of danger.
“When the mist rises, place the black rose over the red rose. For as long as the black rose lives the Fair Family of the Tylwyth Teg will sleep and war between species will flourish.” He repeated the magi‐ cian’s words as the mist seeped into the garden walls. Adriel slipped out the door and returned to the cliff, where he’d make his departure and leave Queen Ursula to finish the destruction of the Seelie fae mound.
THE ROYAL CELTIC FAMILY:
THE GRAY MIST trapped the Faerie Nation into a turbulent roller coaster of internal strife and the healing gifts of the faerie were sapped from the human realm until no creativity, no love, no magick remained.
Amelinda, queen of the Fair Seelie mounds, slipped her hand into her husband’s. Oberon wiped away the tears sliding along her cheeks and took her in his arms. “I love you Amelinda, my queen.” The two clung to each other watching the wave of ebony clouds circle the green valleys.
Amelinda moved in her husband’s arms. “The reign of the trolls with the dark Unseelie fae will bring violence to our land.”
“I fear for the human race,” Oberon said, with a touch of sadness for those he’d always protected. “The fallen angel gains power.”
“A tear of love hung on the edges of her lashes. “Will the humans lose courage?”
“Will we?” Oberon gazed into the distance. “Prepare, Cherie. Her spiders are the webs of life, our connection to the future. She is our final hope in restoring the ancient gardens with the light of healing.”
Terror-stricken, Amelinda clung to her husband, concerned for her daughter’s life. “The son of Gadreel has left the black rose.”
“She alone must return the pure mystic rose of love and destroy the darkness.”
Amelinda sprinkled her magick to the air and spoke to the water nymphs. “Go and protect the humans.” She ushered the sea creatures through the veil before the mist captured their essence and lulled them to sleep.
Their eldest daughter emerged from the castle gardens and ran to her mother. “Relight the flame.” Cherie’s bluish blond hair hung over her frantic green eyes as her gaze darted around the castle. “The Keeper of Dreams, where is he? Where is my husband?” Cherie’s fear showed in her wide-eyed panic.
Amelinda wrapped her arms around her shaking daughter’s shoul‐ ders. “Cherie, you will rise and live to battle the darkness. Remember the voice. When you hear the whisper, awaken to your destiny. You’re branded with the infinity of eight, the spider energy will guide you in your search for understanding.”
Cherie’s father kissed her cheek. “We will await your return, now go, before it’s too late.”
The winds of the vortex swept their daughter through the veil and into the human realm.
“Be brave, cuimhnigh I gconai. Always remember.”
Oberon wrapped his arms around his wife as the sleep of darkness descended on the fair people of the Tylwyth Teg.
