"You were out there cheating on me while I was busy trying hard to make our lives better!" Candy yelled at her fiancé, Mark, as he drove them home.
"Can you just keep quiet, Candy? For God's sake, this isn't something new. You wanna tell me you don't cheat too?" Mark asked, and Candy exhaled in disbelief.
Even after her father's disapproval, Candy stuck with Mark, giving up her dreams and family just to be with him—only to find him cheating on her in a hotel room where her friend worked.
"I would never cheat on you! I can't believe you think cheating on me is normal. After everything I've done? I gave up almost everything for you, even after my father's death. Is this how you repay me?" Candy's voice cracked as her eyes filled with tears.
"I don't wanna hear this bullshit anymore. Do you think I'm happy you abandoned your rich family? We're struggling because of your decision!"
"I did it because they didn’t want us together. I did it because I love you, Mark!" Candy's voice trembled.
"That's just a crazy excuse. If it weren't for your bitch of a friend, I would have been living in comfort... Fuck!" Mark gripped the steering wheel tightly, clenching his jaw.
Candy's heart shattered as she heard the unbelievable words coming from his mouth.
"Do I really deserve this? Did you forget I'm pregnant with your child?" she sobbed.
"You know what? Let's break up. You're always complaining. When I first met you, you were a badass, and now look at you—you're like an old hag," Mark said cruelly, refusing to even look at her.
"Don't think I didn't know you went to your ex's house last week! And then you lied, saying you went there for business!" Mark spat. "Why are you acting all innocent? You're a whore..."
At this moment, Mark's words reached the peak of Candy's anger.
"You heard me, you're a fucking w—"
Mark couldn’t finish his sentence as Candy screamed and slammed his head against the steering wheel. The car veered into the other lane. Raising his head, Mark's eyes widened at the sight of an oncoming truck.
Candy's heart skipped a beat. Mark tried to swerve, but it was too late. The truck slammed into the car, which flipped multiple times, with parts flying off. The car finally came to a stop upside down.
---
"Hello, this is 911. What’s your emergency?" a voice crackled through the speaker.
"Hello... Help... I just got into a terrible accident, and... I don’t think my husband is breathing anymore... please... he...lp..."
Candy's whole body trembled as her phone fell to the floor. The seatbelt was the only thing holding her in place. She could feel intense pain radiating from her abdomen; she was bleeding.
Her eyes were on Mark, who wasn’t moving at all. The truck had hit his side, killing him instantly. Did she just kill him? Blood dripped down from her head, and her vision blurred.
She could hear people murmuring and the sound of sirens outside. The car door was forced open, and rescuers grabbed her from behind. An oxygen mask was placed on her face as they put her on a stretcher.
Candy saw them pulling Mark out as well, but her world faded into darkness.
---
"He died immediately after the accident, ma'am. I’m sorry for the loss of your husband and your baby," the nurse said to Candy, whose expression was blank as she stared into space.
Mark was confirmed dead, and she had lost the baby.
Candy's stepmother, Natalie, was stunned, covering her lips with both hands.
"Oh my God, Candy. Are you going to be alright?" Natalie asked her stepdaughter, though deep down, she was screaming joyfully.
"Stop pretending," Candy muttered, raising her head to look at Natalie. "Isn't this what you wanted?"
Natalie swallowed and finally dropped the act. She was dressed in a luxurious outfit worth a lot of money.
"Well, Candy, I warned you about him. Even your father did before he passed, but you never listened."
"What do I do? It hurts so much. I just want the pain to go away," Candy whispered, and Natalie smirked secretly.
"I can take the pain away if you want. All you have to do is follow my instructions," Natalie said.
Candy looked into her eyes for a moment, then nodded.
---
"The lawyer requests to see Miss Candy," Natalie's assistant informed her as he stood behind her. She was seated in the living room, her face emotionless.
"Didn’t you do what I asked you to do?" she inquired.
"I did, Mrs. Natalie. I told him Candy is currently sick and won’t be able to see him for a while."
Natalie smirked. She had discovered that her husband, Mr. Jefferson, had left all his property to Candy—a situation she would not tolerate.
Putting down the glass of wine in her hand, she raised her gaze to the man sitting before her.
"When am I going to get my balance?" the man asked, crossing one leg over the other.
"After the wedding is done," Natalie smiled, then looked up at her assistant. "Where is she?"
"She's locked in her room as usual," he replied professionally.
In the dim room, Candy sat on the bed, looking lifeless as she stared out the window. She hadn't stepped outside in seven months.
After the tragic accident, Candy had become a puppet to her stepmother, her weak heart helplessly controlled. She drowned in her misery, pretending to be fine.
The door creaked open, and Natalie walked in, composed.
"Hey, sweetie," she greeted.
Candy turned to look at her, her face lighting up with a forced smile.
"Mother," she masked her pain with a cheerful expression.
"It’s good to see you happy and doing well. I have great news for you," Natalie said.
"What is it, Mother?" she asked.
"You’re getting married," Natalie announced, and Candy’s face fell.
"Marriage? All of a sudden?"
"Yes, my dear. It's just a temporary arrangement. This man will give you the power I promised. You’ll be able to face the world again, to have men crumble at your feet... men like Mark," Natalie said, knowing the name would trigger Candy. After a moment of thought...
"Fine, I’ll do as you say," Candy nodded with a smile.

As the morning sun gently streamed through the large, luxurious room, a naked woman blinked away the remnants of sleep. She found the man who had kept her busy all night sitting at the edge of his king-sized bed.
He was dangerously handsome, with chiseled cheekbones and a muscular body. He looked perfect, making one wonder if he was even human—like a demigod. Being in his bed felt like a treasure to her.
"Hey, Mr. President," she said, shifting closer to him, her hand almost reaching him. However, he interrupted in a cold voice.
"Get out. Your job is done here." His rich, deep voice held an icy tone that sent a shiver down her spine.
Right, she had almost forgotten that this man was known as the billionaire devil.
Ruthless, dark, and mysterious, his aura screamed danger, warning anyone to think twice before crossing him.
"Do I need to repeat myself?" he asked, turning his head slightly toward her. His piercing gaze made her heart skip a beat. She immediately put on her clothes and scurried out of the room.
Diego exhaled, his jaw tightening as he remembered what day it was. Moments later, his phone rang, displaying his assistant Jameson’s name on the screen. He answered and stood up, dipping his other hand into his pocket.
"Congratulations, Mr. President! I'm so happy for you!" came the cheerful voice on the other side. Diego pinched the bridge of his nose.
"It seems you don’t need that tongue of yours, Jameson," he remarked. While others called him president, he hated hearing it from Jameson.
"I was just teasing, bro. It's finally your wedding day. I swear this still feels like a dream. I can't wait to meet your bride!" Jameson exclaimed.
"Fuck you," Diego cursed, ending the call. He exhaled and muttered under his breath, "Damn it."
When his grandfather fell ill and threatened him with his death, Diego agreed to get married. His aunt promised to find him a suitable woman. He hated the idea but had no choice but to fulfill his grandfather's wish.
It would be a small wedding, only family would be present. They would sign the papers and have the priest officiate the ceremony.

That same day, Candy stared at her reflection. She had been preparing for this day her whole life. The makeup artist had done an excellent job, making her look beautiful in her white wedding dress. Her stomach churned with nervousness. If this would erase her pain, she was willing to go through with it.
Her eyes darted around the empty room. She wondered what was taking her stepmother so long.
"Where's Mrs. Jefferson?" she asked the makeup artist.
"She’s in the room down the hall."
Candy nodded and made her way there. Her hand reached for the door, but she paused when she overheard something strange coming from inside.
"Yes, I’m going to kill her after she bears a child."
Candy’s brow furrowed, and she peeked through the keyhole. She saw Natalie speaking with her assistant, Kelvin.
"Just to get this straight—Candy’s father entrusted his wealth to her. And Candy can only pass on the wealth to her child. You want her to get married, bear a child, and then kill her?" Kelvin asked, and Candy’s mouth fell open in terror.
"Yes, wire the groom’s account immediately after the wedding," Natalie said.
Candy recoiled, unable to take it anymore. What had she been doing? Natalie had always been cunning ever since her father married her.
"I must be so stupid," Candy sighed deeply and quickly started thinking of a way to escape. She needed to leave immediately!
"Are you finished with Candy? Where is she?" Natalie asked the makeup artist.
"Yes, ma'am. She said she was going to meet you," the makeup artist replied. Natalie frowned.
"Is she not here? Maybe she went back to her room. I’ll take you to her."
Natalie exchanged a glance with her assistant before following the makeup artist.
When they opened the door and found the room empty, their eyes widened.
'Did she overhear everything?' Natalie’s eyes widened further. She turned to Kelvin.
"Find her. If you mess this up, I’ll kill you," she hissed through gritted teeth. Kelvin nodded, pulling out his phone to call the other men.
Natalie stood frozen, clenching her fists. Her plan couldn't be ruined now!

Diego was supposed to marry a girl named Venessa Maxwell today, the daughter of Max Corporation, one of the wealthiest companies in the city. He didn’t know what she looked like and didn’t care. In fact, he wished he could fast-forward the day.
Jameson rushed into the dressing room with a worried look, but it quickly turned to awe when he saw how handsome Diego looked.
"Damn, bro, I feel like stealing you away from your soon-to-be bride," he said. Diego sighed.
"Why are you here?" Diego asked. Jameson's face turned serious again.
"Ah, I just got word that the bride was in an accident on her way here," Jameson announced, and Diego’s frown deepened.
"What?"
His grandfather would be arriving soon, and this could worsen his condition. That would be worrisome.
"Find her. Go alone; don’t involve anyone. The old man can't find out."
"What? I don’t even know what your bride looks like! You kept her face hidden from me."
"That’s because I know you’ll find her and say nice things about me. That would annoy me, and then I’d kill you," Diego said.
"Argh, you know me too well. Shouldn’t we let your aunt know?"
"That woman is arriving with the old man. Do what I said and find her yourself. We have no time; the wedding starts soon. You know where the accident happened, so go there. She should be in a white gown or something," Diego ordered.
"I can’t believe you," Jameson muttered, storming out of the room.
Meanwhile, Candy sat in a corner. The few people who noticed her were busy gossiping, surprised to see her still dressed in a wedding gown. She had nowhere to go at the moment. She could only pray her stepmother wouldn’t find her.
She glanced at a small bruise on her knee. She had fallen while trying to escape. Sighing, she rested her head against the wall.
A car drove past but then reversed back. Jameson rolled down the window, his face lighting up when he saw her. He quickly got out and rushed over.
"Are you Venessa?"
Candy looked up at the strange man in a fine suit and gave him a questioning look. Jameson noticed the bruise on her knee. She must be the one, but how come she didn’t have any guards?
"Are you Venessa Maxwell, the one getting married to Diego Gonzalez today?" he asked again.
Candy recognized the name. Diego Gonzalez? The most powerful billionaire in the city? Come to think of it, marrying him could help her situation.
Jameson tilted his head, studying her face.
"Miss?"
"Yes, I am," Candy cut in. "I’m Venessa, the one getting married to Diego Gonzalez."
"Oh... uh, I hope the accident wasn’t too bad. You can still walk well? Diego doesn’t want anyone to know you’re hurt," Jameson said.
‘He must be kind to care for his bride,’ Candy thought.
"Ah, I’m perfectly fine. Let’s go to the wedding," Candy said quickly.
"What about your guards?" Jameson asked, and Candy hesitated for a moment.
"They... uh... they died in the accident."
Jameson was shocked, and Candy regretted saying that.
"Get in the car. We have no time to waste."
As soon as their car left, Kelvin’s vehicle arrived at the scene. He stepped out with several men dressed in black suits. His eyes scanned the area. He then ordered the men coldly, "Search for her. Don’t stop until you find her."
