“Mrs. Grant, you have a thin uterine lining and an unstable fetus, so you need to be extra careful with your diet and exercise.”
The doctor instructed while prescribing, "Go get the medicine and you may leave.”
“Thank you, doctor. I will be careful.” Whitney rose from the chair slowly.
The doctor added, “Extra careful! I'm serious.”
A thin uterine lining increases chances of miscarriage, and many women cannot conceive again after experiencing one.
“I will be cautious.” Whitney nodded with a smile.
Married for three years, no one yearned for the arrival of this child more than her, and she would definitely protect him well.
After picking up the medicine, Whitney came out of the outpatient building and returned to the car.
The driver started the car and looked at her through the rearview mirror. “Mrs. Grant, The plane will arrive in twenty minutes. Should we go now?”
"Sure."
Thinking that she would be able to see her husband in twenty minutes, Whitney can hardly wait and her face revealed a sweet smile.
Flynn had been on a business trip for almost a month, and she missed him very much.
On the way, she couldn't help but take out the prenatal test from her bag and read it several times, gently placing her hand on her abdomen.
Here, she and Flynn's baby would be born in eight months.
She wanted to share this good news with Flynn immediately.
Arriving at the airport, the driver parked the car in a conspicuous position. "Mrs. Grant, Would you like to give Mr. Grant a call?"
Whitney looked at the time and estimated that Flynn had already disembarked. She dialed but it was disconnected.
"Maybe the flight is delayed, let's wait a while." Whitney said.
After a while, Flynn still did not appear.
Whitney made another call, but still couldn’t get through.
"Let's wait a little longer."
Sometimes the flights could be delayed for one or two hours.
Two hours later.
Whitney called Flynn's number again and it was finally connected, "Flynn, have you disembarked?" Whitney asked.
After a pause, a woman's voice could be heard, "I'm sorry, Flynn is in the restroom. He will call you back later."
Before Whitney could speak, the phone was disconnected.
She looked at the screen of her phone, momentarily stunned.
She remembered that Flynn did not bring a female secretary on this trip.
Whitney stared at the blank screen of her phone, waiting for Flynn's call.
Soon, ten minutes passed.
Flynn did not call back.
Another five minutes, before she could no longer bear it and called Flynn again.
It was finally connected and a familiar male voice came from the other end, low and magnetic. "Whitney?"
"Flynn, where are you? Come meet me at parking lot D."
There was a pause from the other end of the phone. "Sorry, I forgot to turn on my phone after getting off the plane. I have already left the airport."
Whitney's smile instantly disappeared.
"Would you come home tonight?" Whitney bit her lip and spoke, "I got something to tell you."
"Good, I also have something to tell you."
"I'll ask the maid to prepare your favorite meal."
"I won't be joining you for dinner. I'll come back later.”
Whitney felt a sense of disappointment, but her voice remained calm as she replied, “Alright.”
Just as she was about to hang up the phone, she heard a familiar voice from earlier, "Flynn, I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you that Whitney had phoned you earlier."
Whitney's heart sank, she was about to ask Flynn who was with him when the call was abruptly ended.
She looked at her phone screen, pursed her lips, and said to the driver, "Drive home."
The driver inferred something from her terse words and drove away from the airport.
Whitney had little appetite, but for the sake of her unborn child, she ate.
The living room was filled with the sound of the television.
She sat on the sofa, hugging a cushion, and frequently glanced at the time on her watch, with no interest in what was playing on TV.
It was already ten o'clock at night.
Whitney yawned and unknowingly fell asleep.
In a half-awake state, she suddenly felt her body become light, as if someone was lifting her up.
Whitney, in a dazed state, sensed a familiar scent and the smell of alcohol. She murmured, "Flynn?"

"It's me."
“You've been drinking…”
“Just a little, with a friend.”
The sound of a shower coming from the bathroom, Whitney furrowed and turned over, her sleep restless.
The bed beside her sank.
A big hand landed on her waist and followed the graceful curves downwards, stirring with desire.
“Mmm… not tonight…” Whitney was half-awake, trying to stop him.
She was afraid of harming the child.
Flynn's hand stopped and rested on her back, "Fine. Nighty."
Whitney was exhausted and quickly fell asleep.
When she woke up in the morning, there was no warmth beside her, only slightly wrinkled bed sheets, evidence that someone was there last night.
She felt a bit upset. Why did she fall asleep last night?
Anyway, it's the same to say it today.
After finishing her morning routine, Whitney walked to the wardrobe and picked out a suit and a tie for Flynn and placed them at the end of the bed.
Flynn had already finished his morning run and was back. He was sitting on the sofa in casual wear, looking up at Whitney coming down the stairs and put down the files in his hands.
After breakfast, Whitney took a deep breath, her face filled with joy and anticipation, “Flynn, I have something to tell you.”
If he knew that they were going to have a child, he should also be happy, right?
"I also have something to tell you." Flynn's tone was steady.
"You go first." Whitney's smile carried a hint of coquettishness.
"Let's get a divorce." Flynn stood up, picked up the divorce agreement from the sofa, and handed it to her, "Take a look, if you have any concerns, I'll do my best to accommodate."
For a moment, Whitney's heart stopped, and she looked at Flynn in shock.
Her mind went blank for a while, thinking that she misheard.
After a long while, she finally regained her voice, her lips trembled as she reluctantly repeated that word, "Divorce?"
He wanted to divorce her?
What was wrong with their relationship? Why did he suddenly want a divorce?
Out of nowhere, it caught her off guard.
“We were both forced and deceived into the marriage and we could finally end it now. Fortunately, our marriage was not publicly announced so we both can move on easily." Flynn said calmly, as if he was talking about a trivial matter.
Whitney's face turned pale, sensing the air went chilly.
It felt like a big hand squeezing her heart tightly, making it difficult for her to breathe.
That's not true.
She had loved him for nine years.
From her sixteen to twenty-five.
From the blossoming of her feelings to three years of marriage, Flynn was woven into her youthful years.
She wasn't forced. She willingly accepted it.
But for him, it was an obligation.
She swallowed hard and took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady, "I thought we were getting along well in these three years. Did you really make up your mind to divorce me?" The word "divorce" carried a heavy sense of pain when spoken.
"I've made up my mind."
"Did you talk to your grandparents?"
"I will explain to them."
"What if I…" I'm pregnant?
Flynn interrupted her impatiently,"Charlotte was back."
Whitney's breath hitched. Those words pierced her heart like a knife, causing fresh blood to flow.
Numbly, she accepted the divorce agreement and mechanically said, "Alright, let me take a look."
Being deceived, forced into marriage, none of that mattered.
The main reason why Flynn suddenly wanted a divorce was Charlotte.
Charlotte was back.
