Chapter One | Mr. Player's Game

My name is Nya Tenpleton. I am seventeen years old and this is my story. It's been two years since my mother and father divorced, and we live separately. I lived with my father, who is a businessman, and as he is rarely at home, I decided to move to my mom's house. After the divorce, she married my best friend's father, and I really liked them together. My father wasn't angry that I left, as he knew that I felt lonely sometimes. I was really excited to live with my best friend Shane and his sister Emma.

I soon reached their house, which was soon going to be mine too. It wasn't as big as my father's, but I prefer a small house with my family than a big one and feeling alone more often. I parked my Audi in front of the house and lowered my sun glasses to have a better view. Yeah, I have an Audi because my father thinks that gifting expensive things to his daughter means giving love. I looked at myself in the rearview mirror. I have black long curly hair. I adore my hair, and my gray eyes. I honked before getting out of the car and waited for them to open the door.

Shane came outside, and as soon as he saw me, he came rushing to me and gave me a bone-crushing hug. He was so handsome that I'm sure that many girls must be drooling over him. He had brown hair and black eyes. He was one year older than me. "Nya! Damn! Can't believe you're here," he said as he took an eyeful of me.

"I am." I said as I hugged him again. I was damn happy to see him. Suddenly I heard a sob behind him. I turned my head to see my mother standing behind him. I quickly ran to her and took her in a big hug. She was soon covering me with kisses.

"My princess is back," she whispered in my ear. It is true, I'm seeing my mother after two years. Tears rolled down my cheeks. "I've missed you," she said as she pulled away.

"I love you mom." I said as I wiped my tears away. I greeted Tom, my stepfather, who is Shane's father. I really like him. He always treated me like his daughter, even before my mother met him. After a few minutes, Emma ran outside.

"Ahh!" she cried as she saw me. She was one year younger than me. She really adored me. "Why didn't anyone tell me that she’s already here!" she exclaimed. Shane scoffed and turned to face her.

"If you didn't have your earphones in you probably would have heard her honk." Shane said as Emma glared at him. She gave me a big hug, which I returned happily. I used to Skype call her when I lived with my father, so the bond between us was still as strong as it was two years ago. She told me everything that was happening in her life when we talked. We talked especially about her crush, Nathan.

She was still hugging me when I decided to tease her. "So how's Nathan?" I whispered in her ear. She pulled away and giggled. She has long blond hair and black eyes. She’s gorgeous, as always.

"He asked me out! This Friday!" she squealed in happiness. I let out a fake squeal of happiness. Shane chuckled right next to me, as it was so unlike me to squeal. I chuckled along with Shane. We took my baggage in the house, and they showed me my room. It was just next to Emma’s. Great. I already started liking living here. They put my bags in the room and left, so that I could arrange my clothes and things. The room was great. Black and white walls surrounded me, and a white bed with black sheets was in the corner. There was a big teddy bear with a note just next to it. Welcome Home! From your big brother, Shane. It was from Shane obviously. I smiled. He was awesome. I smiled at the paper and put it on the table. I continued arranging my clothes and hell, I had many clothes. My father would always tell me to go shopping when I was left alone at home. So I basically had new clothes every two days.

When I had finished arranging my things, I let my body sink in the bed with a sigh of relief. I had too many clothes. I should have asked Emma for some help, as now I was tired as hell. "Dinner's ready!" I heard my mother's voice chime in from the kitchen. I took a bath and changed my clothes. I started looking for my phone, but couldn't find. I walked to the bed and found it on it. I picked it up and saw a missed call from my father. At least he cared about me. As I looked up, I saw a room just in front of mine. I walked to the window and looked at the neighbor's house. The room in front of mine looked like a boy's, as it was messy, and there were posters of girls on the wall. Just as I was about to walk away, I saw someone entering the room. Wow! At that moment I thought that I was going to faint. Nobody had the right to be that handsome. I saw the boy looking on the floor, probably looking for something. He had brownish hair and a perfect face. I could stare longer, but my mother's voice chimed again. Reluctantly, I pulled my eyes away and forced my feet to the kitchen. It's the first time in my life that a boy had this effect on me.

Chapter Two | Mr. Player's Game

I walked in the kitchen, where Tom told me to go in the dining room. I sat next to Emma, and mom started serving us food. "So baby, you think you'll be liking living here again?" My mother asked me as she sat back and we all started eating.

"Yeah," I replied with a bright smile on my face. "I was missing here, and you people." I continued and a smile appeared on everyone's faces as the words came out of my mouth.

"We missed you too." Tom replied in a loving dad tone. Sometimes I wished that my father talked like this with me. I was glad that my mother married Tom. I smiled warmly at him and we continued eating.

"Tomorrow you'll be going to school," my mother said cautiously. "Or do you want to rest?" my mother asked. She was acting as if she was afraid of my reaction. I looked at her questioningly and she simply smiled.

"Yeah, of course I'll be going," I replied. The way she was acting was annoying me. She isn't acting like she used to. "Mom, what's the matter?" the words escaped my mouth before I could even process them.

"What?" she asked. This was annoying me more. She knew that I was getting irritated, and I‘m the type of girl who can get angry real quick. She finally gave up and looked at me. "Can we talk about it later?" she asked eyeing the food. Then I knew that it will be about something that will really upset me. I simply nodded and ate my food really fast.

After dinner, Shane, my mother, and I were in the kitchen. Shane and I were washing the dishes while my mother was watching us. I was growing impatient, so I decided to ask again. "Can you tell me now?" I asked dropping a plate in the sink. Shane managed to catch it before it broke. I washed my hands and turned to my mother, leaving Shane to wash the dishes alone.

"Thanks for the help," Shane mumbled sarcastically, earning a shove from me. I tried to keep myself cool, as I didn't want to spoil my first day here. My mother gestured to the seat next to her, which I took.

"Your father actually mentioned that you had drinking problem and you were usually getting in fights." My mother said as she shook her head in disappointment. Shane's head rose up and he looked at me waiting for an explanation. Shane has always been the protective brother for me. Even before our parents got married.

"You know that Dad always exaggerates things." I said exasperated. My dad knows nothing about me.

"But he would never make up something like this about you," she said with a pointed look, asking for explanation.

"Alright, I went to a party one night and my friends got me drunk, only one time." I lied to her. But I don't have drinking problem. I’ve been drunk a few times. "And I was engaged in only one fight, and I wasn't the one who started it." I replied. This one was the truth. The other girl was the one who called me a bitch.

"Just promise me that it won't happen here," my mother said putting on a loving face.

"Mom, I can't promise you these things," I said truthfully. "You know me, I won't stay quiet if someone starts a fight with me." I mumbled and she looked at me. She laughed and grabbed my hands.

"I know princess. And you know that if someone starts a fight with you, I'll be helping you fight." My mother said. I chuckled knowing my mother, I knew that she would surely stick up for me. "But I don't want you drunk," my mother said. I nodded and hugged my mother.

"I won't mom," I replied as I kissed her cheek. I pulled away and saw Shane coming towards us. He put his arm around my shoulder.

"Don't worry, I'll be looking after her," Shane said as he kissed my forehead.

"Jerk." I said teasingly. My mother laughed at us and we walked to the living room where Emma and Tom were watching a horror movie. We took seat next to them, and we spent the rest of the night talking and joking, trying to get back all the two years that we missed together.

After that, everyone went to bed. I walked into my room, and my eyes automatically darted to the window. I saw the lights on in the mysterious guy’s room. I turned my lights on and sat on the bed. I called my best friend Sarah to tell her that I was home safe and sound. Unfortunately, she didn't pick up the phone. I sighed in fatigue and let my body fall backwards. I felt all the tiredness leaving my body, and I smiled. I took off my jeans and put on my shorts so that I could sleep comfortably. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I found myself shifting to dreamland.
