Chapter 1 — Damon Furlord | My Sassy Boss

Narrator POV:

Damon threw his Stuart Hughes iPad 2 on the gray ceramic tile floor, but fortunately, Edward, his forty-year-old best friend and very attentive assistant, was too fast and caught it in one hand. He had worked for the young CEO for many years and knew he loved to throw things on the floor whenever he was mad. “What the hell is that?!” Damon yelled as he ran his fingers through his pale yellow hair.

Edward put the iPad on the wooden desk then stood straight. He looked at his boss, whose face was now turning red because of what he'd just read.

“Mr. Furlord, according to our sources, an aspiring writer named Sunny Peruvian used a photo of yours on the cover of one of her erotic romance novels. And since the public knows you well, they were quick to find it and jump to the conclusion that you've been having a secret relationship with that…er…writer.”

“What?! I don’t even know who that bitch is!” He scowled. His sharp square jaw tensed, jutting slightly forward as his thick black eyebrows furrowed. But despite Damon's intimidating expression, his assistant was not taken aback.

Edward cleared his throat and remained still. “I don’t think the woman knows you either.”

Damon’s brow wrinkled even more, and his green eyes narrowed as they burned with fury. “Edward, who on this earth doesn’t know about the great Damon Furlord? She must be from a different planet!”

Edward held back his laughter. Despite being the most well-known self-made CEO in the country, the immature side of his boss hadn’t changed a bit. “Find her, Edward.” Damon looked at him with sharp eyes. “Find that woman and bring her to me!”

The old assistant nodded. “Very well, Mr. Furlord. I’ll bring her to you as soon as I find her.” He said then left the office. As soon as the door closed, Damon sank down in his swivel chair, massaging his temples. His eyes found the iPad once more, and he felt insulted all over again. Who the hell was this woman? Who had the audacity to use his photo in an erotic novel? And she didn’t just use his photo; she'd made a character out of him, a character that seemed unable to control his rampant sexual desires. Damon had slept with few women, but only because he’d been bored. He'd never had a girlfriend or someone he loved. Well, at least not that he wanted to admit.

His phone suddenly rang. Damon pushed away thoughts of killing the woman who'd used his photo and pressed his matte black iPhone 11 Pro Max to his right ear. “Furlord.”

“Lemon?” the sweet voice of a woman came over the line. “I mean, Damon? Is Mr. Damon Furlord there?” she asked. Damon was speechless for a moment. There was no mistaking it; the voice was that of the girl he'd loved back when he was in second grade. He stiffened, unable to find his voice for a minute, but then he gathered his strength and tried to speak.

“E-Eris?” he almost whispered. He gulped. “T-this is Damon, D-Damon Furlord.”

The woman didn’t speak for a while. Damon almost thought that she'd hung up, but then she spoke again. “Oh my god, lemon! Your voice sounds different now. I almost mistook you for another man!” He heard her chuckle, and he smiled as he leaned back in his swivel chair.

“Your voice hasn't changed at all. It still sounds like the voice of a ten-year-old girl.”

“Oh, there's the bully I remember!” she laughed.

Damon’s smile grew wider. He'd really missed the sound of her laughter. “Why are you calling me after all this time?” he asked.

Eris stopped laughing. “Mom’s planning a welcome party at our house next week. Can you come?”

Damon looked at the note on his desk, where Edward had written all of his appointments for the next few weeks. He knew how forgetful Damon was, so he put it where Damon would see it and be reminded—even though Edward still had to tell him every single time. Damon heaved a sigh as he shifted the phone to his left ear. “About that…I'm pretty booked up with appointments next week, so…”

He heard Eris sigh. “I understand. Maybe you can just stop by when you finally have the time?”

“I’ll come,” he said. “I can always ask Edward to move my meetings anyway.”

“Oh, come on, Damon. I don’t want to mess with your job. Let’s just hang out when you’re no longer busy, okay? Just call me,” she insisted.

“But, Eris—”

“I’ll always wait for you. Bye, Lemon!” she said and then hung up.

“I've missed you, Eris…” Damon was about to tell her, but it was too late.

He stared at her name on his phone for a while before he finally put it back on his desk. He heaved a sigh and took a picture frame from inside his drawer. It held a photo of a little girl smiling sweetly at the camera, holding a cute brown teddy bear in her arms. "Eris..." he mumbled as he brushed his fingertips over it. "I'm so glad you're finally back."

Eris had been his first love, the only girl that he'd ever loved, and the one that he was still waiting for. He hadn't really had any serious relationships after she left. He'd been waiting for her to come back, thinking that maybe this time he would be able to confess the feelings that he'd been keeping inside his heart. The feelings that caused him to act cold around other girls. Eris, his childhood friend, was the only woman in the great Damon Furlord's life. The only woman he would ever love.

Chapter 2 — Sunny Peruvian | My Sassy Boss

Sunny’s POV:

‘Is that the great Damon Furlord on the cover of your book?’

‘That’s Damon!’

‘Did you have sex with him?!’

The comment section of the story that I just published online was getting floods of messages from people I didn’t know who kept on asking me about the guy on my book cover. I barely even knew him. I just saw his photo online and his features really corresponded to Denver, the hero in my story, so I decided to use it. I never thought so many people would know him, but fuck, they were bugging me right now!

Damon…Furlord…

I almost fell from my chair when the google results came up.

Damon Furlord, the twenty-year-old CEO of Furlord Enterprises, was known for being the youngest self-made CEO in the country. He was also known as the Angel CEO because of his ethereal features, which were often compared to that of an angel.

I looked through his images, and I immediately found the photo that I had used as my book cover. “Damn, what did I just do?!”

At the bottom of his photo was an article with the headline 'THE ANGEL CEO HAD SEX WITH AN AUTHOR?' What the fuck?! Had sex?! I just used his photo, but they already think that I had sex with him?! I quickly went to my website and deleted his photo and changed the cover of my book to a blank background with the title written on its center. I sighed. I deleted it already. Everything would be okay now, right?

“SUN-SUN!” I quickly turned off my PC and turned around only to see a woman wearing a pink halter dress with red perfectly permed hair. She suddenly came running to me and hugged me. “SUN-SUN!!”

“L-Let me go…! Who are you?!” I tried to push her away, but she kept on hugging me until my chair fell down on the floor, and so did we. “Ahhhh!!” My head had already hit the floor, but the woman still didn’t let go of me.

“SUN-SUN, I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!!” she kept on kissing my face too so I gathered all my strength and pushed her away.

“Who are you?! And how did you get inside our house, huh?! Are you a thief?!” I yelled at her. I knew she couldn’t be a thief with that pretty small face of hers. I looked more like a thief than her actually.

“Sun-Sun… How can you say that to me?” her face suddenly turned red and tears came running down her face all of a sudden.

I furrowed my brows and stared at her. “W-Why are you crying? I’m just asking about your name and….” I leaned closer to her and tried to stare at her face. “Wait, don’t tell me you are…M-Mira?!”

The woman just kept on crying like a little kid as she nodded. “You are so mean Sun-Sun!”

I moved closer to her and peered on her face once more. “What happened to you? Why did your hair turn red! Did you already join the cult of Satan?!”

“FOOL!” Mira suddenly got up and lunged onto me and started locking her arms around my neck.

“Arrg!! L-Let me go!” I yelled while trying to take her hands off my neck.

“How dare you forget your older sister huh?! You small little brat!”

No doubt, she’s really my older sister. Her name is Mira, she went to Paris five years ago to study. She’s two years older than me, but acts like a total kid. I remember fighting with her over an ice cream, she won because she cried and so mom scolded me and asked to just give it to her. This woman is a total actress, you know.

I was running out of breath when Mira finally let go of me. “What are you doing here, huh? Do you have your boyfriend hiding somewhere here?” she stood up and started rummaging through my closet and even under my bed.

“What are you doing? Stop messing up my room, I just cleaned it!”

She turned around and glanced at me. “Cleaned? You mean you already cleaned this? Really?!” she kicked the crumpled papers on the floor. “And look at yourself, you look like some lost child. God Sunny, you’re already twenty years old, but you still don’t know how to groom yourself. No wonder you've never had a boyfriend.”

“If you’re just going to reprimand me, then just get out. I have been and am always getting enough words from mom and dad about that, so could you just give my ears some rest, even tonight?” I said as I sat back on my swivel chair.

I heard her sigh. “Fine. I’m sorry, okay? Come on, let’s eat first before you do what you’ve been doing there. Mom cooked some quesadilla.”

I already know she’s smiling based from the tone of her voice.

“I’m busy…” I said.

“Oh really quesadilla girl?” she teased me.

A smile suddenly formed from my lips. This girl really knows me no matter how many years have passed. I tilted my head towards her and she raised an eyebrow.

“The loser’s going to wash the dishes!!” we both yelled as we raced towards the kitchen. We both sat in front of the table and she was the first one to grab the biggest quesadilla. “Well, seems like I’m still the fastest!” she winked at me.

I just rolled my eyes and started eating the Italian Spiral Meat Loaf that Dad baked. “Hey Dad, it tastes good!” I said.

“Of course, I’m the one who baked it. There’s no way it would taste bad.” Dad boasted.

“Hey, my quesadilla tastes good too! Right, honey?” Mom said to Mira.

“Of course, it’s best quesadilla I've ever tasted!!”

I frowned and Mira made a face at me. She did change, but her character didn’t. She’s still that jolly and childish older sister that loves to mock me. She became prettier, her black hair back then turned red now, but it suits her. Any color of hair would suit her. She’s pretty anyway, no doubt because all of my crushes back then had crushed on her. Mira is the total opposite of me, she’s jolly, extrovert, pretty, talented, smart; she has all the traits that a man would look for. All the things that I will never have and will never be.
