“Thank you, Dad." I kissed his cheek before waving as I got out from his Jeep.
"Be careful, daughter," he ordered me.
"You too, Dad. Don't forget to take your medicine." I waved and turned around to enter the backdoor of bar.
I went straight to the locker room and quickly got dressed, applying a little lipstick and powder before going out.
"Hi, Cherry!" Fernan, the janitor at the bar I work for, greeted me.
"Good evening, Fer." I smiled at him after I passed.
I went inside while tying my apron, and I slightly adjusted my name pin and smiled.
"Cherry, one bucket in room five!" Jacky immediately shouted at me when she saw me coming.
"Okay," I said, turning to Calix who was wiping the table.
"A one bucket please." I leaned over the table and tucked my hair behind my ear as he turned away.
He looked at me and dropped the bucket at the counter table while chewing bubble gum.
"Thank you." I smiled at him, and he just shrugged his shoulders at me.
I walked along the tables. The bar was full tonight because it was Friday. Usually, our customers were students on Fridays, but the crowd was different now with lots of people, and I was a bit stuck in the middle.
"Excuse me! Excuse me!" I shouted loudly. Some parted when I noticed my waitress uniform.
I just breathed a sigh of relief as I entered the hallway.
"Room service." I said as I knocked on the door for the performers. But they seemed busy because I could only hear laughs inside the room.
"Hello, room service!" I raised my voice again.
I gently blew my bangs while leaning against the side of the wall. I lowered the bucket to the floor and snatched the cell phone from my pocket to update my status on Facebook while waiting.
I had not yet finished when the door opened.
I flinched, and my eyes turned to him.
He looked right through me with his two narrow eyes, then looked down at the bucket at floor.
"Is this what we ordered?" His voice was so cold like a deep ocean.
He took the bucket off the floor.
"Ah, yes, sir. I was just waiting to someone to open the..."
I flipped him the finger when he just turned his back on me without warning and shut the door close.
"Argh!" I smirked as I tried to leave when I heard the door open again.
Another face peeked out from the inside, so I stopped.
"Sir?" I had a big smile on my face when I turned to him.
"Ah, miss, could you please add more some ice?" He smiled broadly at me.
"Alright, do you want anything else, sir?" I asked again.
"That's all. Thank you." Then he closed the door.
I jumped back to the counter and headed over to Calix who was busy mixing drinks.
He glanced at me and raised an eyebrow slightly.
"What is that?" I asked impatiently.
"Blue Hawaii. Sweet and sour mix with blue curaçao." He poured the cocktail juice into a long glass and applied some pineapple chunks and cherries along with the mini umbrella.
He laid it down in front of me with a slight smile on his face. I immediately perked up.
"Thank you." I was about to sip on the juice when he spoke again.
"Please, bring this to table six," he ordered.
My wide smile faded from what he said, and I stood up. The redness on my cheeks also immediately increased due to embarrassment.
"One ice bucket..." I said before smirking. I even heard his laugh a little at me.
I bit my lips and brought the order to the table where a group of women were chatting happily.
I hesitated to approach and gently laid the drink on the table. I tried to leave when I heard the broken glass on the floor.
"Oh shit!" the woman behind me shouted.
"Oh!" I covered my mouth when I saw a woman's clothes were stained with cocktail juice.
"What the hell?"
I bowed down and tried to wipe off her dress using my hand towel. "I'm so sorry, ma'am.”
"Stupid! Can't you see we're talking? Then you suddenly put the drink on the table without even saying anything?" she growled at me.
"I'm sorry again," I said patiently.
"Stupid! Look at my dress. Do you know how expensive is this, huh?" she shouted at me. We were getting others’ attention even though the music was loud.
I was swallowed hard.
"Candice, enough," I heard someone whisper.
"You will pay for this!" she shouted and stood up, so I slightly backed away.
"I'm so sorry..." I bit my lip hard again.
"That's enough, Candice." I heard someone stop her.
"This stupid girl doesn't know how to do her job properly!" she still shouted.
"I'll just pay for your damaged clothes," I said softly.
"Huh? You must be kidding me!"
She folded her arms and looked at me with disgust.
Then, I felt a warm palm rest on my shoulder and help me get up.
"Miss, maybe we can talk about it properly. Many costumers have been delayed because of this," Calix spoke behind me.
"Who are you? I want to talk to your manager!" She gazed at me with so much hatred.
My eyes widened as I glanced at Calix. He grabbed my hand and then faced the customer.
"I am the manager," he said.
"No matter how much the damage to your clothes costs, I will pay it," he added.
I looked up at what he had said before bowing down shamefully.
"Huh.." I heard her sarcastic tone.
"Next time, before you hire an employee, make sure she knows how to do her job properly!"
"If you'd still insist on her apology, I will be forced to make you leave this Bar, and only my lawyer will talk to you." His voice took on an authoritative tone.
Their faces looked like they ran out of color.
"Candice, enough. You will not see the performance if you keep insisting," the girl beside her said.
She eyed me from head to toe before turning and walking away.
Calix motioned for Fernan to clean the broken glass pieces.
"Are you alright?" he asked me.
"I'm fine. Sorry for what happened. I'll just pay for the customer's damaged clothes," I promised.
"No, that's not a problem." He stared into my eyes for a moment before turning his back on me and returning to the bar.
I couldn't help but blush at the way he defended me earlier. I also did not expect him to do that and take on the damage that should have been charged to me.
He glanced at me and raised an eyebrow, prompting me to approach. A smile flashed on my face as I approached him. He immediately put down the ice bucket in front of me.
"You ordered an ice bucket..." he said, staring into my eyes.
CHAPTER 2 | My Sexy Boss
↓
“THANK YOU," I said sincerely.
I shook my head before I smiled. At that point, I had little hope for him. Honestly, I’ve had feelings for Calix for a long time—since college. I even applied to work at his bar just to be with him every day even though I had no experience as a waitress.
I didn’t know when I’d stop this illusion that one day he will like me. Maybe when he married another woman. But since he had not yet found that woman, I still had hope.
"Room service!" I knocked again on the closed door.
I looked up at the top of the door where the name of our guest musician was written.
"Logistic Band?" I read.
That's when the door opened, and the tall man from earlier confronted me.
I felt like I was being pulled by a magnet because of this handsome man in front of me.
His expressive eyes and his red lips made my heart jolt. He was wearing a black leather jacket and had a piercing on the left side of his eyebrow.
He glanced at his wristwatch then at the Ice bucket I was holding.
"Do you usually take twenty minutes to serve a bucket of ice here?" He had a deep voice that made my knees tremble.
I swallowed hard. I shook my head and put on my sexy smile.
"I'm so sorry, sir. There was just a little problem outside."
He smiled and folded his arm over his broad chest as he stood in front of me and leaned against the door frame.
"Does management allow their employees to use their phones during work hours?" He smirked.
I averted my gaze. I didn't say anything because he's right. How could I defend myself if he caught earlier?
"Hi, miss!" The man who asked me for an ice earlier poked his head around the door.
I walked over to the man who had a big smile on his face.
"Dude, you are scaring the waitress." He even tapped the shoulder of a man who scolded me.
"Come in..." I was surprised when he pulled one of my hands to get inside the room.
And the room fell into silence as I they saw me with a man holding my hand.
"Hi!" A man holding a glass of wine waved at me.
"Guys this is..." The man next to me bowed to me, waiting for me to speak.
"Cherry.." I answered weakly.
"Cherry!"
"I'm Zack," said the man who greeted me earlier.
"Sky, at your service," another man introduced himself and saluted me.
"And I'm Jeff." He turned to me and held out his hand to me as I reached for him. I wondered why they bothered introducing themselves to a waitress.
"And this man behind you is Rexon."
I just nodded without interest and looked at the tall man coming out of the dressing room.
"And here is our manager, Dawzon Del’torre." He glanced at me and nodded slightly.
"You're on air in minutes," he said to the boys.
"Ugh, I haven’t had any alcohol yet,” Zack muttered.
"Ah, I'm sorry, sir," I immediately said.
"It’s okay, Cherry." I felt Jeff's palm on my shoulder.
I immediately put the ice bucket on the table. I bowed in shame because of my misfortune tonight.
"Anything you want, sir? Another bucket of Ice or anything?" I asked them as I saw the disappointment on their faces because of the delay.
"Sure.." Zack answered immediately.
"No, we’re fine. You may leave now, miss," Rexon said. He took the bottle of beer and poured it into a glass.
I bowed my head down and left the room silently, but Jeff followed me outside.
"Are you here every night?" he asked.
"Yes, sir," I answered politely.
"Just call me Jeff," he replied, and I nodded.
"I'm sorry about Rex..." he added.
"It's okay, sir." I smiled at him sweetly. He seemed very friendly unlike the man named Rexon. I frowned as I remembered his cold face.
"Thank you again. Would you like to watch our performance later?" he asked softly.
"Yes, sure!"
I went back to the counter with so much disappointment because of the trouble I made. I frowned as I sat in an empty chair and watched the people making a fuss and shouting.
I glanced at Calix who was leaning on the table with a lit cigarette in his right hand.
"Hey! Are you fantasizing about Calix again?" Jacky leaned over me, holding a tray.
"Huh? No!" I shook my head.
"What's new?" She placed the empty tray on the table and looked down at me.
"Nothing…" I answered weakly.
"I heard you broke a glass again. How many have you broken this week?" She giggled.
Honestly, I broke glasses almost every night, and the customer always blamed me even though I knew they were to blame.
"Not funny..."
"It's really not funny once you receive your paycheck." She grinned again.
I just sighed at what she said. I sat down at the chair and looked at the stage where Jeff's group had gone up.
"Oh my God!" Jacky screamed.
I was surprised when people shouted and even Jacky pulled my T-shirt to stand up immediately.
"Rex! Rex!" the crowd and Jacky shouted.
I stared at them and stood up because I was already covered by the people who rushed the stage.
"Go Logistic! Go Logistic! I love you Rexon!" they chanted.
"They're really handsome," Jacky said as her cheeks reddened.
Rexon tested the mic.
"He’s considered handsome?"
"Gosh, are you blind? It just because handsome in your eyes is Calix!" she exclaimed, and I just ignored her.
"I mean, they didn't even catch my attention." I folded my arms with annoyance.
"How could you say that?! They are the most popular band right now!”
I laughed.
"I met them earlier at the room 5, where I served, them" I said without hesitation.
"Oh shit! Really? If I only knew! I would have served them!" she grumbled with regret.
I just smiled then shook my head.
"Hello... mic test. " I quickly glanced at the stage when I heard Rexon.
The crowd immediately cheered.
"Good evening, everyone. Are you having fun?!" he shouted.
"Yes!" Jacky also shouted with the crowd.
I, on the other hand, seemed to be stunned by the softness of his voice. He bent down to adjust the guitar to his shoulder and slightly tapped the string.
"Are you ready, guys?" He even raised one hand in the air then smiled at the crowd.
I swallowed hard when he smiled, especially when he bit his lower lip slightly after kissing the mic.
I quickly took a deep breath and held my chest, then I turned to Calix. I turned to Rexon again who now backed away while pulling the mic stand.
My heart sank down to my feet when his eyes hit mine. I swallowed hard because he held my gaze for about a second as if I were the only girl here.
Now that he was singing, I did not think that his voice was cold He literally took me somewhere I could ever imagine. He started to smile a bit while he was singing. The butterflies on my stomach were getting wild. I didn't want to break eye contact, and I was disappointed when he closed his eyes and hit the chorus. I was eager to see his dark eyes again, but his gaze turned to the other side and focused on the crowd.
"Cherry, table 8!" Calix called to me.
"Yes!"
Calix stared at me before he handed me the glass of cape cod vodka.
I walked slowly because his voice was still moving me, and my heart felt relaxed.
"Miss here!" I felt someone’s hold on my arm, so I turned around to stop.
I immediately lowered their order to their table and tried to leave, but he grabbed my arm again.
"Miss, can you stay for a while?" he added. I was pulled down by force to sit on his lap.
