Tanira.
“Where am I?”
My head pounded like a war drum, the pain splitting through my skull as I forced my heavy eyelids open.
I couldn’t see the room clearly because of the dim light, but the room's scent was rich, and it only meant one thing, I was in a hotel room or, better yet, an expensive suite.
I managed to move my weak limbs and sat up on the bed still with my right hand on my forehead, my eyes squinting to grasp anything I could make out of the room. I needed to recall how I got there.
My other hand lingered on the space on the bed, but it wasn’t empty after all. My hand rested on something crisp, and it made sense to me that they were wads of cash.
“No…no…no…” My breath hitched at the sudden realization.
My eyes fell slowly to my body, I still had the heavy fluffy blanket over me but my chiffon top was gone.
“What?” I shrieked when I found out that I was completely naked, not even a piece of lingerie was covering my nakedness.
But who? And how did I even get here?
Whoever that was in this room with me was a man and he had mistaken me for a call girl, and this money…was a way of appreciating me for my services.
I had to think of how this could be happening. But the door bursts open.
“It’s you right? You witch!”, I sprang up from the bed, holding tightly onto the duvet, my eyes blazing with fury.
Sonal’s eyes swept over the room like a predator getting ready for its prey. And then her gaze landed on the wads of cash.
“Well, well, well”, her lips curved into a smirk, her eyes still on the cash. “Didn’t take you for the type, but I guess everyone has a price”.
I swallowed the bitter taste of my saliva. “It’s not what it looks like, Sonal.”
Her brows furrowed and her mouth pouted as she looked at me teasingly. “Looks like someone had a very generous night”.
She picked up the dollar bills one after the other, checking their authenticity before shoving them into her purse.
My stomach tightened as I tried to ignore Sonal’s presence, it was evident that she knew nothing about how I got to this suite.
“My stomach”, I cried, holding my stomach but Sonal was too busy hoarding the cash.
I felt something warm and liquid trickle from my private part, slowly my eyes fell to the bed and there it was.
Blood.
My breath left me in a broken gasp, my head spinning as I stared at the soiled red liquid on the plush bed.
“I was…disvirgined”, I barely felt the sting of tears before they spilled down my cheeks.
Sonal scoffed. “Are you seriously crying? What, did you expect breakfast in bed after that?” She waved the wads of cash that couldn’t enter into her purse at my face.
“I’m taking this, I don’t think you have any need for it”, she hissed.
“How did I even get here?”, I raised my drenched eyes to look at her.
She shrugged, throwing a gum into her mouth. “I don’t know, you were drunk last night a few minutes after the party ended. You said you were going to your room…” She rolled her eyes.
“Only to end up here”, she looked around and then winked at me.
Yes. Sonal organized her regular weekend parties last night, she had forced me to attend since I stopped by the house. I had too much to drink because I needed to clear my head, only for me to end up in a stranger's private suite.
Gosh! I hated myself for this grave mistake.
As I tried to think deeper, I shut my eyes. Fragments of last night flashed through my mind. I was naked, drunk but I craved this man who wrapped me in his arms, I could feel his sweaty body against mine as he kissed my neck passionately.
“Fuck!”, I groaned and snapped my eyes open.
Shoving past Sonal, I stumbled out of the room, barely managing to wrap the duvet around my body as I ran down the dimly lit hallway.
My fingers trembled as I pressed the elevator buttons, it was taking too long and I couldn’t wait so I took the stairs. I nearly crashed into the laundry cart. The laundry man wheeled through the hallway leading to the lobby.
“Sorry”, I mumbled, making sure the duvet still protected my nakedness.
I didn’t know when I sprinted past the receptionist's table.
“Excuse me, can I help you? Miss…” the receptionist glanced up, startled to see me in that manner.
“The man,” I gasped, trying to catch my breath as I gripped the edge of the counter tightly.
“The one who stayed in that room. Who was he?”, I pointed upstairs but the receptionist only looked confused as her eyes trailed my fingers which pointed upward.
The receptionist hesitated when her eyes rested on my tear-stricken face, it must have melted her heart at least.
“He…he just left”, she pointed to the exit.
“Where?” my stomach churned as I turned to look at where she pointed.
I heard the roar of an engine and I turned just in time to see a sleek black car speeding out of the hotel driveway.
“It’s him…”, I ran to the glass door.
“Wait…please…” I waved helplessly at the car but it was too late, the car had gotten to the gates.
My heartbeat drummed against my ribs, trying to catch my breath, my hands rested on my knees my eyes still at the gates, hoping that some miracle would happen and the car would just happen to reverse.
But I only hoped, as it never happened.
I knew the only person that could help me right now was the receptionist. Shamelessly, I went back to the receptionist, my bare foot hitting the cold marble floor.
“He is gone…”, I looked at the exit.
“Can you please tell me who he is, you could just check him up on the system”, my eyes lingered on the large iMac desktop on the table.
“I’m sorry Miss, that will be very difficult because…”
“He stayed at the suite, room number…”, I then realized that I had no idea the number of the suite I had just come out from.
“That’s not the issue Miss. It's against the hotel policy to disclose the identity of any guests”, she shook her head pitifully.
I wanted to explain to her my predicament, I was sure she would understand since she was a lady like me but as my lips parted to say another word, some guests strode in, their questionable eyes lingering on me.
“She’s so lucky”, I heard a staff member say as I made my way upstairs with my head dropped to the floor.
“Yes. I saw her come out from the suite Alpha…”
“Alpha… What Alpha?”, my lips quivered, my eyes pleading with the staff to say something but they scampered away at the sight of the hotel manager.

Tanira.
Two days later.
“No…no…I won’t sign this”, I shook my head, fighting to raise my eyes from the death sentence written on the paper Sonal handed over to me.
“You won’t sign it?”
“No. I won’t, I see no reason why I should be paying for the sins of another!” I spat, throwing the paper at Sonal.
Next to her was my father’s mistress, Prisha, who sighed dramatically. “Your father has done so much for you."
“And yet, here you are, refusing to help the family when we need you the most”. Her eyes fell to her hands which she rubbed together in pity.
I couldn’t hold the laughter anymore, I laughed so hard that Sonal and Prisha thought that I had lost my mind but my laughter was laced with anger and hate.
“Family?”, I scoffed.
“Did I hear you say family? You both are no family of mine”, my eyes lingered on both of them.
“I’m your father’s wife and Sonal is his daughter”, Prisha sprang to her feet. That was the attitude I knew her for and not the holy act she was trying to put up.
“You're just his mistress”, I let out a wry smile.
I turned to Sonal who rose to her feet slowly, her hands circling her mother’s arm. “And you…you are just the daughter of a gold digger”.
“I’m not signing”. I shook my head “I don’t care how much Alpha Kael is offering. I’m not some piece of property to be sold off to a man I’ve never met”, I tried to calm the storm raging inside me.
Sonal let out a soft laugh, shaking her head. “Oh, Tanira”, she walked up to me. “You act like you have a choice”.
“Really?”, I stared right into her eyes.
“If he had so much money to buy me off, why doesn’t he forfeit the debts he claimed my father incurred?”, I folded my arms to my chest, positive that I had made a good point.
“Can you even listen to yourself?”, Sonal threw her hands into the air.
“There is a fixed price to be paid for everything, he is willing to forfeit the debt if only you are sold to him”, she said calmly while I listened. It was just the same thing, I had no money to give Alpha Kael and I didn’t want to be sold to him either.
I ran my hand through my disheveled burgundy hair, I wasn’t thinking straight anymore and my legs wobbled.
I reached for the nearest sofa and sank into it, my head buried in my hands.
“Your mother…remember she is unstable and needs medical attention…” Prisha tried to remind me of something I was trying to keep away from all this chaos.
“Stop!”
“Stop it!”, I cried out, the realization dwelling upon me. She was right, my mother had gotten a heart attack upon the demise of my father and hearing that he had left us with nothing.
“Her medical bills are expensive, aren’t they? I wonder what would happen if the payments suddenly stopped…”, Prisha was pushing me beyond my limits and I couldn’t hold it anymore. I sprang to my feet, charging toward her but Sonal stood between us.
“You wouldn’t”, I could feel my blood boiling.
“Don’t underestimate us, Tanira”, Sonal’s smirk widened and I knew they were capable of any evil in the world.
I tried to remain still, holding my hands together so they didn’t tremble as I thought of what to do. They weren’t lying, I had no job, no money, or any man in my life who would help me sort out the piled-up bills from the hospital.
My phone dinged immediately, I dipped my hand into my sweat jacket and took it out as if reading my mind, the message that popped up shattered my heart into a million pieces.
Urgent: Payment Due. Treatment may be discontinued.
“Fuck!”, a tear dropped from my eyes and landed on the screen of my phone.
They always said that even a beggar has a choice and so did I. Even though I was worse than a beggar.
Sign the contract and be sold to Alpha Kael. Refuse, and my mother’s life would be at risk.
Sonal’s fingers tailed down my face to my arms, in her face I could see the feigned sympathy. “It’s your choice”.
If I should sign this contract, I would be trapped forever, owned by a man known for his cruelty. But if I didn’t…
I reached for the pen amidst trembling hands. And then, just before the ink touched the paper I paused. I could see the disappointment that swept across their faces.
“It’s Alpha Kae, right?”, my eyes darted from Prisha to Sonal but they both exchanged a suspicious look.
“Sonal?”, I wanted her to give me her word for it, I didn’t want to make a costly mistake.
“Erm…yes…yes. It’s Alpha Kael”, she nodded slowly as she squeezed my hand fondly.
“Good”, I sniffed and quickly scribbled my signature on the paper.
“She signed it!”, Sonal snatched the paper from me and ran to where Prisha stood, eager to testify with her eyes.
“You just did the right thing”, Prisha smiled but I paid them no attention, I wanted to know when the treatment on my mother would commence.
“And the treatment?”, I cut through their excitement.
“It’s immediate, a call will be put across to the doctor”, Prisha replied and I knew I could take her words for it.
“And when do I leave for Alpha Kael’s house?”, I wanted to get everything over and done with.
Alpha Kael was the easygoing prince of the Stormrend Clan, I knew he would be willing to listen to me and maybe after telling him some cooked-up story he might have pity on me and cut me some slack.
“Now!”, Sonal’s eyes rested on the door and two guards marched toward me. One of them was holding a blindfold cloth, ready to tie it around my eyes.
Without objecting, I let the man blindfold me and lead me into the waiting car. I relaxed inside the air-conditioned car thinking hard about a heart-wrenching pitch I was going to present to Alpha Kael when I got to his house.
I wasn’t calculating the time but I knew that we didn’t spend more than two hours before I heard the sound of the gate opening and the car halted when it drove into the driveway.
“Get down gently”, the calm voice of the guard alerted me.
Holding my arm firmly, I got out of the car with the help of the guard. And I followed him into the main building.
“Boss, we are back”, another guard announced.
“Boss?”, I mumbled, wasn’t he meant to be referred to as Alpha Kael or something more specific?
Well, what do I know? I shrugged lightly.
“Remove the blindfold”, The voice I heard sent an icy shiver down my spine and I wondered if I was the one that was spoken to.
“Yes boss”, the guard beside me replied, indicating I wasn’t the one being referred to after all.
Slowly, the blindfold slid down my face. I was curious…curious to note my surroundings and see the face of the Alpha whom I was sold to. I've seen him a couple of times while my father was still alive but I doubted if he could still remember what I looked like.
I shut my eyes with the same speed I used in opening them but something felt familiar, it was a strong masculine cologne. It was rich and…evergreen in my memory.
I had perceived that scent before but I felt overwhelmed to even think of where I had perceived this strong cologne.
“Is she blind?”, the icy voice snapped my eyes open and my jaw dropped when I saw the masculine frame covering a good amount of space in front of me.
“Alpha Darius?”, my lips parted, my eyes widening like they were about to drop out of their sockets.
