Alpha Havrel’s POV.
“What’s going on in your mind?” A gentle voice broke the silence behind me as I stood on my balcony, gazing at the moon.
Delicate arms slipped around my body, but I paid no attention. I took another long swig of whiskey, still fixated on the glowing moon.
There was something beyond words in watching it, a sensation no physical pleasure could match. It gave me a kind of peace nothing in the world could provide. No power, no wealth could replace this feeling.
Georgina’s fingers trailed over my bare chest, but I ignored her.
I was lost in the brightness of the moon above.
And deep inside, I hated myself for it.
For the suffering I’ve carried since that night…
My heart broke for the woman whom I ruined because of this moon… this curse… I hate my life. I hate myself. I hate… everything.
“I think I’m pregnant, Havrel.”
Her words finally caught my attention but for all the wrong reasons. I shoved her arms off me and turned, glaring at her coldly.
I don’t fucking know why she would say those stupid words. And she should regret it.
Fear flickered in her eyes.
“Stop making shit up, Georgina. You can leave now. Oh, and thanks for the fuck.” I spat, walking away and tossing the bottle to the floor where it shattered.
She let out a bitter laugh, following after me.
“That’s it? A ‘thanks for the fuck’? Is that how you treat your fiancée?”
Anger rose inside me after hearing those other stupid words again, burning hotter than fire, consuming everything in its path.
I halted and faced her, enraged. She took a shaky step back. I hated when people acted as though they were better than me. I hated how they think they can get a hold on me.
“When did I ever propose to you?” I narrowed my eyes, daring her. I’d never ask anyone to marry me. I don’t ever want to be married. Not to this woman. Not to anyone…
Marriage was just another cage.
Tying myself down was something I’d never do. It was a prison, nothing else. I couldn’t understand why people were obsessed with it. Those people are probably bored with their lives. And I’m not one of them. I will never be one of them.
Pain crossed her face as she struggled for a response.
“The whole pack knows! We both know we’re meant to marry. You can’t deny it!” Her voice was thick with desperation.
I could’ve laughed at how clueless she was.
“No wedding’s happening. Get out of my room.”
She smirked at me, mocking.
“Because you’re still hung up on that woman? She’s dead, Havrel! You really think she could’ve survived what you did to her? You killed her!”
My blood surged with rage. I clenched my fists, my breathing heavy and erratic. “Don’t you dare say another word, Georgina.”
“No! When will you face the truth? She’s probably dead! A mortal like her couldn’t survive—”
I slapped her hard across the face, and she hit the ground with a sharp gasp. I grabbed a fistful of her hair, pulling her toward me as blood dripped from her lip. I savored the sight. Blood always stirred something in me… a thrill, a sense of power.
“If you ever mention her again, I’ll kill you without hesitation. Understood?” I snarled.
She nodded frantically, swallowing her fear.
“Now, get out of my sight.”
———
“ALPHA HAVREL, LUCIA IS HERE. She wants to speak with you,” Beta Fredo called out, bowing his head.
I froze at the mention of her name, my chest tightening. What does she want now? Is it about the prophecy?
“Let her in,” I ordered through clenched teeth.
Lucia stepped into my office, her innocent and frail appearance deceiving, but I knew better. She was far more powerful than she seemed.
Since discovering the curse, I kept her close. Her powers were the only way I could learn the prophecy. She was the last of the black witches the Moon Goddess used to speak to lycans.
“Alpha…” she greeted softly, lowering her head in respect. I studied her every move.
“Is this about the curse?” I asked, my voice low.
She swallowed hard and nodded. “I dreamt of you…” she paused. “And a woman.”
My wolf stirred at her words, desperate to break free. “A woman?”
“The one from your past…”
I shot up from my seat, my body shaking uncontrollably.
“She’s alive?” My voice cracked with hope.
“In my dream, she held a baby. I couldn’t see her face, but the child’s cries were filled with sorrow and loss. The baby longs for love, Alpha.”
A knot formed in my throat. A baby? No. This couldn’t be real.
“Is it…” I couldn’t finish the sentence. It was too much.
Lucia nodded slowly. “He’s your son, Alpha.”
My heart stopped.
I had a son.
The 326th Alpha had been born, and I never even knew.
I had to find him. I had to hold him.
My heart suddenly felt heavy yet full at the same time. Was this what people called happiness?
Was it?
“It’s been years!” I gasped for air. “Why did you only dream of this now, after all this time?” My voice broke as I asked.
“Perhaps it’s a sign that your paths will cross soon. You will find her again, Alpha…”
I hadn’t slept in days since Lucia shared her vision. Her words haunted me. I thought I’d never see the woman again, but now it was only a matter of time.
I couldn’t remember her face. I couldn’t even recall the events of that night under the golden moon in the dark forest. All I remembered was the horror of what I did to her. And I regretted every second of it. I destroyed her life.
It was seven years ago…
The memories were both vivid and hazy. I could still hear her voice pleading for me to stop. I could feel her terror. Everything was still there but her face was lost to me.
It was because of this curse. I couldn’t control the beast inside. I was powerless every year when the third golden moon appeared.
I was turning into a monster.
Chapter 2 | Ravaged by the Alpha King’s Curse

SEVEN YEARS AGO…
The full moon hung high in the sky, its silver light spilling over the dense forest surrounding the small town of Veridia. A crisp breeze whispered through the trees, carrying with it the scent of earth and pine. Yet, beneath the peacefulness of the night, an unease simmered in the air. Tonight was the night… again.
Alpha Havrel Demetrius stood at the edge of his pack’s territory, his senses heightened as the full moon approached its zenith. The cursed gold moon… the third of the year. The one that brought with it the most dangerous part of his existence. The curse of the 325th Alpha.
At the age of twenty-five, he had already seen too many people suffer because of it. He wasn’t just the Alpha of the Veridia Pack. He was the one who was supposed to end the line of Lycans… his bloodline. His destiny, woven into the prophecy, was to be the undoing of his kind.
The night the curse first appeared, it had been a violent explosion of rage and power. His wolf, a beast far stronger than any Alpha could ever hope to control, had taken over completely. He had killed those who tried to stop him… his subordinates, his friends, his own family. None of them had been able to calm him, to chain the beast inside. The wolf had only one purpose… to find a mate.
It was not just lust. It was something primal. An instinct far beyond the comprehension of any human. Havrel had tried to fight it. He had tried to resist. But every time the curse surfaced, it was as if the wolf was in control, and Havrel was nothing more than a passenger in his own body.
Tonight, he could feel the change coming. The tension in the air, the itch under his skin. His wolf was awakening, growing restless inside him, demanding to be freed. The anger that had built up inside him ever since that first night was still there, churning deep within his chest. He had spent the years since, locking himself away, chaining himself to the basement whenever the curse took over. It was the only way to protect those he loved from the wrath of his own blood.
But no matter how much he tried to control it, tonight would be different. The curse was always the same, but every time, it seemed to get worse. The pull, the hunger for something… or someone… was unbearable.
Havrel gritted his teeth, trying to push down the hunger that rose with the full moon. It was only a matter of time before he would be forced to succumb to it.
Meanwhile, in the small town, Nieves Herrera was trudging home after a long day at work. She was exhausted, her legs heavy with fatigue. The night had already settled in, and the streets were quiet, save for the occasional passing car.
Her mother’s warnings echoed in her mind, but she shrugged them off. “Don’t go through the woods, it’s dangerous.” The words had been repeated to her countless times. But she was too tired to care. Besides, it was just a shortcut. She would be home soon, and the woods didn’t seem so scary to her.
As she walked, she muttered to herself, “It’s just a shortcut. You’re fine, Nieves.”
The trees, thick with shadows, loomed on either side of the narrow path. The air smelled of damp earth and pine, but there was something else too… a strange, almost electric hum that she couldn’t quite place. As she walked, she pulled her jacket tighter around her, trying to ward off the chill creeping into her bones.
That was when she first heard it. A sound. Something like footsteps, but they didn’t belong to her. She turned her head, but the forest was still. It was too dark to see more than a few feet ahead, and the stillness was unnerving.
Suddenly, a figure appeared from the shadows, stepping out from the thick woods like a phantom. He was tall, his silhouette barely visible against the backdrop of the trees. His eyes, gleaming in the darkness, seemed to catch the moonlight in an unsettling way.
Nieves froze, her heart racing in her chest. “Who… who are you?” Her voice trembled, but she couldn’t bring herself to run. Her feet felt like they were frozen to the ground.
The man’s lips curled into a small, dark smile, though his eyes remained cold. “You shouldn’t be out here, little one. It’s not safe.”
The low, gravelly tone of his voice sent a shiver down her spine. She tried to back away, but the night seemed to close in around her. She was trapped.
“I—I’m just on my way home,” she stammered, taking another cautious step back. “I’m not—”
Before she could finish, the man moved. His hand shot out, grabbing her wrist in a grip that felt like iron. Nieves gasped, trying to pull away, but his strength was overpowering. His breath was hot on her neck as he leaned closer.
“I’m afraid the forest has other plans for you tonight,” he murmured.
Nieves’s eyes widened as the overwhelming scent of earth and something wild filled the air. It wasn’t just his breath… it was his presence. There was something so… different about him. She had to get away, but her body wouldn’t respond. His gaze locked onto hers, unblinking, as if he was studying her, examining her soul.
“Who are you?” she whispered again, barely able to get the words out.
The man’s eyes glowed in the dark as he tilted his head slightly, considering the question. “My name doesn’t matter.” He stepped even closer, his lips brushing her ear as he added, “But you—”
The man paused, his nostrils flaring, and then he froze. His eyes narrowed as he took in the scent of her… of something ancient and untapped, something only his wolf could sense.
“You’re mine,” he growled softly, his voice rough with something animalistic. His grip on her tightened. “You always have been.”
Nieves blinked, a wave of dizziness washing over her. “What… what are you talking about?”
The man didn’t answer. He was no longer holding back. His lips crashed against hers, fierce and demanding, and her world tilted on its axis. Her body froze, her mind reeling, but her heart… her heart was pounding in a way she had never felt before. She knew she should fight back, but she didn’t… she couldn’t.
He pulled away for a moment, staring at her with something that bordered on hunger. “You don’t understand, do you? You belong to me. You’ve always belonged to me.”
Before she could respond, his mouth descended on hers once again, and this time, there was no escaping the dark pull between them.
