I checked the time to see it was 12:54 PM, and we closed at 1 AM.
My uncle owned the Costa Café, and I wanted to help him.
I started to clean everything up, and as soon as the clock hit one, I made my way to the door to close the café. I was stopped by two men running to the door.
"Are you still open?" the man with the hoodie said.
"Well, actually, no, but I could serve you, so welcome," I said.
"Thank you. That's really kind off you," said the man with blonde hair.
"What can I get you?" I said, going behind the cashier.
"I'll have a carrot cake and a latte," he said.
"Give me cappuccino," said the man with the blonde hair.
"It’s on the café. Go take a seat," I said.
"Why is that?" the man with the hoodie said.
"I don't know how to use the cashier" I said letting a laugh slip out of my mouth.
"So, why are you working?" the man with the hoodie said.
"Well, it's because I wanted to help my uncle today. He's home sick, and we all know that people don't come at midnight for a coffee," I said.
"Take the money," he said.
"Thank you, but that's too much," I said.
"If you insist," he said as they both sat down.
I prepared their coffee, took a slice of the carrot came from the fridge, and put it on a plate.
I put them all on a tray and took them to the table.
"Enjoy your food—I mean, your drinks and carrot cake," I sighed.
"Thanks," said the man with the hoodie.
"Do you have a job?" the man with a blonde hair asked.
"Nope, and this is how I spend my time," I said.
"School?" he asked.
"Well, I have a three-month vacation before finals and then I'll graduate," I said.
"Woah, that's cool! I've never had a three-month vacation!" the man with the hoodie said.
"Yup, I guess I'm lucky," I said.
10 minutes later:
"Thanks for the drinks and the cake," said the man with the hoodie.
"Thank you," the other man said.
"Hope you ate well, and you’re welcome," I said.
"Bye," the man with the hoodie said.
"Bye, and have a good night," I said.
After second, the blonde man came back in.
"I forgot my phone," he said.
"Oh, good thing you remembered," I said.
Before leaving, he handed me a card.
"We need an assistant. Maybe you could work for us?" he said.
"Okay?" I said, confused.
"The name is Andrew, by the way," he said before leaving again.
"What just happened?" I asked myself.
I closed up and made my way home.
"Dad, I'm home!" I yelled.
I locked the doors and went to the living room to see my Dad sleeping on the couch.
I grabbed a blanket from the cabinet and put it on him.
I kissed his cheek, whispered "good night," and made my way up.
Passing by my brothers’ room, I adjusted their blankets, turned off the lights, and whispered “good night”
Before going to my room, I went to my little brother and sister's room.
I smiled at the sight of both of them snuggled in one bed with Max's head on Ava's chest. I kissed their foreheads and went to my room.
At breakfast, I told my Dad about Andrew and the card.
"Try! Why not? You'll lose nothing," he said.
"You think I can do it?" I asked.
"You can!" Nathan said.
"Shut up, Nate! My sister can! Yes, you can, Lia. Now, get up and call that Andrew!" said Jai.
"Okay, Ava, make sure Max eats well before you go to your friend’s house!" I said. I grabbed the card and my phone and dialed the number on the card.
"Hello," said the voice on the phone.
"Andrew?" I said.
"Yes who is this?”
"I'm Amelia, the girl at the cafe. I thought about what you said," I said.
"Oh, hi! So, are you gonna take the chance or not?" he said.
"Yeah, I guess I'll try it out," I said.
"Good, I'm gonna send ya the location. We expect you to be here by 10," he said.
"Okay, I will. Thank you so much," I said.
"Bye," he said and hung up.
I got ready, got into my car, and made my way to the location Andrew had sent.
I stopped in front of a huge building.
I locked the car and went inside.
"Hi, may I help you?" a girl at reception asked.
“I'm here to see Andrew," I said.
"You have an appointment with him?" she asked.
"No, but he knows I'm coming," I said.
"Name?" she asked.
"Amelia Johns" I said.
"I'll need you to wait here for a bit. You may sit," she told me.
I sighed and sat down.
6 minutes later:
"Seventh floor. You'll find a receptionist there" she told me.
"Okay, thank you" I said.
I stood in front of the elevator and waited for someone to come.
The elevator door opened, and I saw someone enter.
"Aren't you coming?" he asked.
"Um, there is no other way than the elevator?" I asked.
"Nope. Well, there are the stairs, but you want to walk all the way up?" he asked.
"No," I said.
"Then, come in," he said.
I nodded and stepped in.
Please let me get to floor seven safely. Don't let the electricity go out and stop the elevator.
"Are you hearing me?" he said.
"…What?" I said after I snapped back from my thoughts.
"What floor?" he said.
"Sorry, seven," I said.
"I'm going to seven too," he said.
As the elevator reached floor 7, I ran out and took a deep breath.
"Hi, I'm Am—" I said.
"Amelia Johns?" he said.
"Yup," I nodded.
"Mr. Andrew is waiting for you in there," he said.
"Okay, thank you" I said.
I knocked and entered.
"Hello, Amelia," Andrew said.
"Hi," I said.
"So, I'll be giving you the schedule of what you need to do, and then go to the room at the end of the hallway. This is the schedule—you can read, so I'm just gonna tell you that you should always remember his meetings and always make sure he remembers. You'll always have to be with him," he said.
"Okay," I said.
"Oh, shoot! Can you please tell him we have a meeting in 10?" Andrew said.
"Sure,” I said, turning away.
"Amelia! You forgot to sign," he said.
"Oh, sorry." He handed me a pen, and I signed the paperwork.
I went out and went down a long hallway.
I found a door and knocked on it.
I entered and stood in front of a desk while the person was turned around with the back of the chair facing me.
"Um, hello. I'm your new assistant. Andrew told me to remind you that you have a meeting," I said.
"I know. I really don't want an assistant, but Andrew said I need one, so I guess you won't be having a lot of work to do," he said.
"I'm Amelia, your new as—holy shit! You’re Shawn freaking Melendez,” I yelled as soon the guy turned around in his chair.
"And you are the cafe girl!" he said.
"You were the one with the hoodie? Holy shit!" I said.
Shawn nodded.
"Um, sorry, I just really love your songs!" I said.
"Glad you like them," he said.
"So, I'll be working for Shawn Melendez? Like you?" I said.
"Yup, and I expect that Andrew told you about everything," Shawn said.
I nodded.
"I'll need you to give me your number to send you the flight and tour details, and I'll be needing your passport," Shawn said.
"Flight? Tour?" I said confused.
"He didn't tell ya? You'll be coming with me on tour," Shawn said.
"Um, I don't think my Dad will let me," I said.
"Oh, school? I'll have Andrew talk to your Dad," Shawn said.
"Um, alright… my number! Right," I said.
He gave me a notepad with a pen, and I wrote down my number.
"I don't want my number shared anywhere. It has happened a lot," Shawn said.
"Trust me; I will not give it to anyone… and you have less than five minutes until your meeting, " I said.
"Alright, you may leave now—wait, your passport," he said. I opened my bag and gave the passport to him.
"I'll have to keep it with me. Expect the details by tonight and be ready by tomorrow morning" he said.
"Thank you, Shawn," I said.
I walked out and jumped with excitement.
"Yas, I can't believe it !" I said.
"You will have to." I turned to see Shawn laughing.
"Shit," I whispered.
I went to my car and made my way to Costa Cafe to help my uncle.
At nearly midnight, I got home to see Dad sitting.
"Hey," I said.
"Hello, darling," Dad said.
"How you doing," I said.
"Well, Andrew talked to me and told me that you will be going on tour with that Melendez guy," Dad said.
"Dad, you know he's my fav!" I said.
"And I decided since you're now big enough to travel, you'll be going with the one you looove," Dad said.
"Dad, stop teasing her!" I heard Ava say.
"Really?" I said.
"Yup, but you'll be back before your last term!" Dad said.

"You're going?" Nate said.
I nodded.
"where are you going?” asked Max.
"I'm going to somewhere a bit far" I said.
"I'm so happy for you! You lucky fat cat! You saw him and you're still alive! If I was you I'd be dead" she said.
"glad you could do something you like sis" Jai said.
"will you be able to take care of Max? Ava?" I asked Dad, Nate, and Jai.
"Lia, darling, we can do it, and we'll have your aunt here, you should just take at least a month vacation".
"Dad is right! You should! And for once Lia, I will be a good brother to you, and I went you to trust me, I promise I'm going to take a good care of them, Ava is a big girl right now and Max we can find a way" Nate said.
"Nate is right for once in this lifeline" Jai said.
"go Lia, be happy for me" Ava said as I smiled and went to her and hugged her.
"I love you, Avs" I said.
"I love you more sis" she said.
I went to Nate and hugged him.
"I said I'll be a good brother but that doesn't mean I'll hug you!" Nate said.
I huffed and frowned.
"come here you silly, I'm joking" Nate said hugging me as I smiled.
"that Melendez! Should better take care of you" Jai said as I hugged him.
"now go and get your luggage ready" Dad said.
"oh, shoot thanks Dad!" I said.
He hugged me.
"you'll have to take care of yourself" he said.
"I will Dad. Wait but what about Ava's surgery?! It's in a week!" I said.
"I'll be here with her" Dad said.
"Dad I'll not go" I said.
"Lia, you're going whether you like it or not! He is your favorite and you'll be on tour with him! And your stopping yourself for me? I'll be fine" Ava said.
"you sure?" I said.
"I am" she said.
"I love you" I hugged her tight.
"I love you so much more" she said.
"and don't you worry about nothing sista! I'm here" Jai said as I chuckled before I ran up and got my luggage ready.

"Hey, Laur! You'll never guess what happened!" I said.

"you're funny" she said.
"I'm literally not joking!! Things got mixed up today! I went to work as an assistant but guess who I'm working for? Shawn!" I said.
"I SWEAR ON MY LIFE" I said.
"oh my god! Are. You. Serious?" she said.
"I AM! oops, I'll be out in the morning, so I guess I'll not see you" I said.
"what airport!" she said.
"but it's in the morning" I said.
"tell me what airport! And what terminal, I won't let you leave till I see you" she said.
"you're gonna wake up in the Morning! For me?" I said.
"yes, I will! Just this time, please tell me you're not joking" she said.
