Robert POV:

I was sitting outside of her room. I was completely distressed and didn’t know what to do. I was getting excited, but at the same time scared. 

I was waiting for some good news, but it had been so much time and my heart was swelling up. I needed to hear those words now.

I got up, took a lap around the hospital, and came back to my place. It had been one year since our marriage, and I was happy. But right now, I was so stressed out that everything seemed to be completely blurry. 

I had to find a way out. I knew that a big heap of happiness might be awaiting me, but right now, things were difficult. The worst part? I couldn’t be with her, and she couldn’t be with me.

I waited for the doctor to come out. Finally, a nurse stepped out, but when I saw her face, I knew something wasn’t right. My heart broke even before she said anything because I interpreted everything that happened.

No…her pain, her everything, it shouldn’t have ended without any fruits. It shouldn’t have gone in vain!

“Tell me that what your face is saying is wrong,” I said to the nurse.

She looked down. “We are sorry, Mr. Robert…but there is something you should know.”

“Yes?”

“It seems like she took, or was given, abortion pills.”

“What?”

She sighed. “We can’t say anything, but she needs you right now. She is having a mental breakdown. She doesn’t seem to have taken them herself.”

I nodded slowly and went inside. I went to her and sat beside her. She was crying badly.

We were finally going to have our first child…but…I didn’t know what happened. Everything was perfect! She was going to give birth soon! So, what happened?

I didn’t have time to worry about it right now because Hailey was completely breaking down. I wanted her to know it was okay, but she was crying badly. She was going through so much pain!

“Hailey…it’s okay…” I whispered to her and took her hand. “It’s fine. It is gonna be fine.”

She cried more. “How? How is it gonna be fine, Rob?” she sobbed. “This is so wrong! What did I do to deserve this? I have been waiting for almost nine months and now…”

I wiped her tears away. “First, calm down.” I caressed her forehead. “See, you have a fever? Calm down.”

She wiped away the rest of her tears. “R-Rob, I don’t know! I am so scared…I am so tired…I am so sad…”

“Don’t be scared, Hailey.” I took her hand. “I am gonna find out who did this soon, okay?”

She sobbed and nodded. “But…now what? Robert…you were so excited for this…”

“I know. And I know that you were even more excited, Hailey…but we can’t do anything about it…so don’t think about it too much, okay?”

She sobbed and nodded. “Okay.”

“Now, just get some rest, and we will go back home soon.”

She nodded again. I sat by her side.

In the last year, it seemed liked nothing had changed, but in reality, everything changed. We were closer than ever. She loved me, I loved her…and we were the happiest couple.

She proved that she was the best wife, and well, it took time, but I tried to be the best husband too. When she had asked me to, I left the Mafia then and there, so I hadn’t contacted any Mafia leaders or members since.

I had been living with her and since I was the CEO, tried my best to ensure that I spent time with her, and give her the love she deserved. We were doing fine with no obstacles. We didn’t have anything to worry about, and I had no enemies that would make me worry about our child. 

But who did this?

Alex had married someone two months ago. Her name was Summer. She had gone to South Korea when everything was crashing down…and well, Hailey accepted her, so who was I to bring up the past?

I think Alex wouldn’t do anything to us again because he was happy with himself and his wife. Summer had been a good woman since she married him. She behaved nicely with all of us, and it had been a great pleasure that Alex finally settled down too and left everything behind.

But something was wrong. Somewhere, something was definitely off. Everything should have been perfect, but it felt too perfect to be real. And then…suddenly abortion pills? 

I had protected Hailey really well in these last months, so I didn’t think that anyone could reach her. And I didn’t think that anyone could make her have an abortion either. She loved the baby more than herself.

I didn’t know what was happening or why. We were happy now. Our life had been dramatic enough already. 

But that didn’t mean I was not ready. If there was danger coming, then everyone should know: I was still the same Robert. But this time, I wouldn’t be against Hailey. Instead, I would do anything and everything to save her and our future. If this was our fight, then I was ready. I was still the same Robert—the Robert Anderson.

Hailey POV:

I finally stopped crying after a long time. I didn’t know what to even think anymore.

“R-Rob,” I stuttered when I tried to speak.

“Yeah, Hailey?” he asked.

“When will I be able to go home?”

“I will ask them. Maybe two days.”

“Okay…”

“I will be here. Don’t worry.” He smiled at me. “Okay?”

“Yeah. My perfect husband.”

He smiled again. “Yes, my perfect wife.”

We smiled for a few moments. He could make me smile even in the worst moments. I was so blessed to have him. 

“Has Alex contacted you?” I asked him. Alex had been supportive of our child from the start, but strangely he wasn’t here today.

“Nope. Summer did. She said that he is sorry but he’s busy and he can’t come.”

I sighed. “Ah, I will kill him. You’re even busier than him! You’re the CEO of the biggest company! And still, you are here, aren’t you?”

He smiled. “Oh, okay, calm down, baby. It’s alright.”

I sighed. “Well, I’m tired!”

“Then sleep.”

“Really?”

“Why not?” Robert asked.

“I wanna talk to you.”

“We will talk later.”

“Really?”

“Hailey!” He laughed. “Yes.”

“Okay.” I smiled back. “Stay by my side for at least ten minutes and then you can go.”

“Okay.”

I smiled and closed my eyes. I felt safe whenever he was around.

Robert POV:

I was sitting beside her and watched her close her eyes. She looked so beautiful when she slept. I mean, she looked beautiful when she was awake too, but even cuter when she was asleep.

I watched her and she slowly drifted to sleep. I noticed that she was so used to having me by her side that she had trouble sleeping if I wasn’t around.

But if I was there, she would sleep no matter the conditions.

I took out my phone and decided to address the matter with the police. I was not part of the Mafia anymore, and I would not get involved in all that ever again.

I told the police everything and then they told me to ask Hailey questions about what happened because she would know better if someone who had given her something to drink or eat could have added the abortion pills.

I told them I was the only one who ever gave her anything to eat or drink, and that I told Hailey that no one else should do that. And I, of course, took all the safety measures and precautions possible!

“So, I hope you can ask her and inform—”

“Yeah sure.” I ended the call. Well, did they really think I was gonna do that shit? When I knew that she didn’t take anything from anyone? She knew how dangerous it could be because I was ex-Mafia. She wouldn’t be so careless.

I stood up and left the room.

“When will she be discharged?” I asked the doctor.

“Possibly tomorrow if all reports are normal.”

“Okay.”

Cassie POV:

I was in Nicholson’s house. A lot had changed in the last year. Oh yeah, I still called him Nick sometimes, but he told me to call him Alex. Well, I can’t change my habits!

I came to know that Nick also had another sister. I was really shocked. They explained some of the things, which went totally over my head. I didn’t know that I had a sister!

Well, the house where we lived was sold, and then I lived Alex and his mom. Hailey was surprised to know about me too, but that was okay because I was adopted. But I still couldn’t believe that Alex had a sister and he never told me! 

Well, it ended up being good because to calm me down, they promised to give me something. I asked for an education in Russia, and they agreed!

I’d be leaving in almost a month. I was damn excited.

I was at my new house with Alex. Well, he married Summer two months ago. I was happy for them. I knew Summer always loved him, and well, I wasn’t sure if he loved her, but I guess I was wrong. He wouldn’t marry someone he didn’t love!

I walked out of my room and Alex was working on his computer.

“Hey,” I said. He looked at me and smiled.

“Hey, Cas.”

“What’s up?”

“Same old business.” He sighed and closed his laptop. He looked at me. “How are you?”

“I am better.”

“Take care of yourself,” he said.

“It was just a fever.”

“And next time, it will just be a slap.”

I sighed. “Stop being so overprotective.”

“Why would I?”

“Because!! It is too much.”

He laughed. “You are so cute. Go and rest. I have some work.”

“Ah, you always want me to go inside!”

“I didn’t say go inside. I just said go rest, which means sit down.”

I sighed. He was so difficult to understand!

I sat down and he opened his laptop and started working again. Summer brought breakfast. Summer made awesome food. At least, I got good food because of her!

We were eating the food when Alex’s phone rang.

“Hello?” he said when he answered the phone. “WHAT? WHY!?…Oh…I will be there soon…” The call ended.

“What happened?” Summer asked him.

“Hailey’s child was aborted.”
